Winds of September: The Taiwan Chapter (九降風之台灣篇)

The DVD for Winds of September:The Taiwan Chapter (more commonly known as Winds of September/九降風) was released recently, so the film has also been uploaded for viewing on tudou and YouTube. Winds of September runs for a total of 107 minutes. In significance, this is MaoDi's film debut, and it is amusing to see him credited by his real name, as Chiu Yi-Cheng or 邱翊橙, in some English reviews and the credits.

In summary, the film is focused around seven boys, who form a tight knit gang, and explores their friendships and how they change through time.

I have been browsing around for a good synopsis or review of this film. Consequently, I found a pretty decent synopsis from The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), which selected Winds of September: The Taiwan Chapter as part of its showcase for the 2008 festival:

'For the Taiwan chapter of the Winds of September trilogy, director Tom Shu-Yu Lin brings us a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the Taiwan baseball game-fixing scandal of 1996 – an event that shocked the nation and decimated the Taiwanese leagues. As a gang of friends move towards the end of their final high-school year an accident tears their world apart.'
Confronted with a cruel reality, the boys need to grow up in time to face it. “In the end, how are the young supposed to face the future, who are they to look up to and why does innocence have to end?” – Tom Shu-Yu Lin'

I have not yet watched the film in its entirety, but when I get the chance to do so, I shall also post my own review of it here :). From what I've read about the film at the moment, I find it interesting how they used the Baseball League scandal as a parallel metaphor for the conflict the characters experience as they leave their childhood ignorance behind and mount the path to maturity.
