The cast and crew were interviewed in the following video, for Hong Kong entertainment news. The reported stated that the cast, including MaoDi, flew in specially to promote Winds of September in Hong Kong cinemas. Winds of September's producer, Eric Tseng, commented that it was a remarkable feat for a Taiwanese film to be shown in Hong Kong, especially with a cast that is new to the entertainment industry.
Eric Tseng's daughter, who also attended the premiere, revealed that the cast were all very nervous to be promoting in Hong Kong as they cannot speak Cantonese. However, they did not realise that many of the people in Hong Kong had become very internationally-minded with the fans even translating for the cast. In particular, she added that MaoDi was attracting a lot of fans to the event and that they kept on screaming his name.
Furthermore, the reporter stated that Winds of September was having an ideal reception in Hong Kong and are even nominated for three awards at the upcoming Golden Horse Awards.
Next, the reporter focused on MaoDi, as it was his first role in a film and he even had to shoot a nude scene. In the interview with MaoDi, he commented that initially he didn't believe himself capable for the role and felt embarrassed to have to be naked on the set at only 15 years of age (at the time of filming). When MaoDi finally viewed the scene, his response was that he needed to build up a fitter physique as he found himself to be too skinny. The reporter added that with MaoDi's idol image, it was very brave for him to bare all for the film and thus, it is not surprising that he has gained the passionate support of so many fans.
The lead actors in the film also claimed that they did not mind to be outshone by MaoDi in terms of popularity. On the contrary, they discussed how it was very enjoyable to be able to work and live together during filming, as they are all around the same age and have similar interests and aspirations. Furthermore, they revealed how they often enjoyed going to the hotel for some drinks and a nice, long chat after filming wrapped for the day.
As the nude scene was to represent the young boys' sense of liberty as they rebelliously stripped to jump into the pool at night, even the director was inspired to feel a sense of nostalgia for his youth. However, the director also joked that he did not feel tempted to join in, as watching seven nude boys was enough!
The reporter also stated that all the promotions for Winds of September had been running for the whole day, so the cast had not even had a chance to eat. Therefore, the news captured footage of the cast at the celebratory dinner in a Japanese restaurant, after the premiere. MaoDi was interviewed at the dinner, and he expressed how he felt very happy to be in Hong Kong and touched by the fact that Winds of Septemebr was screening in Hong Kong. MaoDi also never expected that his first film would be such a success and thanked everybody for their support. At the dinner, MaoDi and the two lead actors also decided to go into the kitchen and make skewers for everybody, to which the reported commented that they added too much salt! In the end, the director was forced to taste their culinary creation.
